Awakn Clinics – Service Description

 

Initial Medical Assessment (IMA) Service

The IMA service is a 90 min session conducted by a Consultant Psychiatrist in an Awakn Clinic to get a better understanding of whether our Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy treatment is right for your condition and your individual circumstances. The service comprises a full psychiatric assessment including a suicide clinical risk assessment and initial screening plus baseline outcome questionnaires, alongside a brief physical examination. You may also meet the clinical psychologist, the clinic nurse or one of the Awakn therapists.

Where clinically indicated, you may be required to undergo a pregnancy urine dipstick test, recreational drugs urine dipstick test, or alcohol breathalyser testing.

Some information about ketamine, including its history, how it works and how it can be applied as a tool to assist psychotherapy will also be provided during the IMA.

Each client will be required to pay £350 for an initial medical assessment. Once booked this is non-refundable, whether you go onto the therapeutic course or not. Upon completion of a successful medical assessment, the client shall be invited to enter the Awakn KAP course. This does not affect your statutory right to cancel a service during the cancellation period. This is explained in our terms of service. If you ask us to carry out the initial medical assessment before your cancellation period has ended, you will lose the right to cancel.

 

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) Service

For the KAP course, you will receive 11 sessions of psychotherapy, spread over 8 weeks, which will include 4 ketamine administrations (given intramuscularly, IM), 6 non-drug preparation and integration psychotherapy sessions and a final post-course evaluation session 3 weeks after the end of the therapeutic course. Over the course of the therapeutic sessions, the ketamine dose will be collaboratively adjusted according to your individual response.

All psychotherapy sessions, both non-drug and drug-assisted, will take place in person at the Awakn Clinic. We do not offer remote sessions. This means clients must be committed to attend the clinic on a regular basis throughout the course. For the first 5 weeks of the course, sessions are at least weekly and on 4 occasions twice-weekly, typically with a next day session after each ketamine-assisted session.

The Awakn KAP course costs £4,995 outside London, and £6,995 in London, which can either be paid as one single payment, or paid in four instalments ahead of sessions 1,5,7 and 9 of your treatment protocol as follows:

Ketamine for reduction of Alcoholic Relapse (KARE) Service

For the KARE course, you will receive 7 sessions of non-drug psychotherapy and 3 ketamine administrations (given intramuscularly, IM) typically spread over 4 weeks, however this can be viewed as 4 blocks of therapy with some flexibility to accommodate clients' individual commitments. Over the course of the therapeutic sessions, the ketamine dose will be collaboratively adjusted according to your individual response.

All psychotherapy sessions, both non-drug and drug-assisted, will take place in person at the Awakn Clinic. We do not offer remote sessions. This means clients must be committed to attend the clinic on a regular basis throughout the course. For the first three weeks clients will receive a non-drug psychotherapy session followed by a Ketamine dosing session on the same day, then the following day clients will receive another non-drug psychotherapy session. In the fourth week the client will receive a final psychotherapy session to consolidate their learning and plan for their future.

Awakn offers a package of 4 support calls that clients can purchase to support them in reducing their alcohol consumption or maintaining a low level of drinking prior to receiving KARE therapy. This isn’t essential for all clients but can be a useful option when indicated.

The Awakn KARE course costs £4,995 outside London, and £6,995 in London, which can either be paid as one single payment, or paid in 4 instalments ahead of the support calls, and sessions 1,4 and 7 of your treatment protocol as follows:

Cancellation

If you cancel your treatment during the course you forfeit the rest of the payment you have already made however no further payments will be required. For example, if you have made payment 1, and cancel after session 2, you will not be refunded any payment you have made towards sessions 3 and 4.

If you cancel within 48 hours of a booked session or sessions and want to continue with the overall course and reschedule the cancelled sessions you will be liable to pay for those rescheduled sessions again in full. For your therapy to be effective, a particular time period is required between each therapy session. As a result, if you cancel one session, your later sessions also need to be reorganised.  The cost for rescheduling will be based on a price of £377 per hour for a clinic outside of London and £477 in London. For example, if you cancel within 48 hours of Session 5 and want to reschedule you will need to pay for both rescheduled sessions 5 and 6, for 3 hours at a total cost of £1,130.

This does not affect your statutory right to cancel the Awakn KAP Course during the cancellation period. This is explained in our terms of service.

When you agree to take treatment, you are agreeing to pay for all 11 sessions. If you ask us to book your first session before your cancellation period has ended, you will lose the right to cancel.
